RODNEY AND ELVIE MILLER

cid:084ACA63-409D-4069-8411-733FB92F7CE3@localIn 1983, Rodney Miller was designated a "Master Fiddler" by the National Endowment for the Arts. He is widely considered to be the foremost exponent of New England style fiddling, a uniquely American blend of French Canadian and Celtic influences. Over the past 35 years, he has toured the U.S., British Isles, Australia and Denmark, performed and taught at hundreds of music and dance festivals, and recorded over ten fiddle albums. In 1999, Rodney was invited to represent the state of New Hampshire and play at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. He has also appeared on Garrison Keillor's National Public Radio show "A Prairie Home Companion," performed live with the Twyla Tharp Modern Dance Company, played at the Kennedy Center in NYC and recorded for the National Geographic Society. In 2007, Rodney and his daughter Elvie Millerrecorded a beautiful waltz cd, Spyglass Waltzes, which has already been described as "Reiki for the World."Rodney is a master violin-maker employed by Stamell Stringed Instruments in Amherst, Ma.

Elvie Miller provides the powerful, seemingly effortless, sometimes mischievous half of the Miller duet, on piano and piano accordion. Elvie has been playing music since she was very young, and over the years she has shifted from classical piano to folk accordion and piano. She grew up going to contra dances in New England and now she performs at contra and English country dances all over the U.S. In 2005 she was selected as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow and travelled through Ireland, England, Scotland, Finland, Sweden, France and Cape Breton, studying accordion and traditional music and performing internationally alongside Karen Tweed, Timo Alakotila and Maria Kalaniemi, among others. She currently tours with Rodney Miller, Airdance, Irish fiddler Denis Liddy and with Night Watch.

If you’ve enjoyed Line Dancing or you’ve enjoyed the thrill of an English Ceilidh or Barn Dance, then come along and enjoy the driving music and hypnotic groove of the CONTRA DANCE.

All dances are taught on the night, so if you’ve never done any Contra Dancing before you will be able join in and have fun.
